[EXCLUSIVE] Salou will have a new high-rise attraction next to the beach

The project envisages a giant Ferris wheel on Passeig Jaume I, in the style of the modern structure of the ‘London Eye’ in the English capital

Mapilife is proud to reveal that Salou council is proposing to build a modern Ferris wheel or a high-rise viewpoint on the promenade. Everyone involved is looking forward to recovering this iconic attraction, that will change the Salou skyline in the coming years.

Locals and veteran holidaymakers will remember the legendary Salou Fair. It was located at the end of the promenade over the beach and close to the port. It was a traditional fairground with the Ferris wheel as the main attraction and symbol of Salou for decades. The arrival of PortAventura led to the gradual dismantling of this space, which closed permanently in 2001.

PortAventura evolved the urban profile of the town with its emblematic attractions. Dragon Khan, Shambhala and, in recent years, Ferrari Land, are clearly visible from all over the Costa Daurada. However, as we can exclusively reveal,  Salou will once again have a visible attraction close to the beach.

The rumours circulating from last summer have been confirmed. Salou Council is planning to erect a new high-rise attraction next to Llevant beach, specifically in the square adjacent to the Cyber Fountains on Passeig Jaume I. The project has been created by local entrepreneurs from the world of entertainment, who want to provide Salou with a new tourist attraction in the heart of the town. They are convinced that it will be a success and a great boost to recovery.

It is possible Salou will recover the iconic image from the end of the last century when a Ferris wheel stood by the sea. The project envisages a large modern Ferris wheel in the style of the ‘London Eye’ in the English capital. An attraction that would offer the best 360º aerial views and illuminate nights in the capital of the Costa Daurada.

The London Eye is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world.

The project is currently in the study phase and has been temporarily frozen due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Salou Council plans to present a public tender to decide which is the best proposal. The project to recover the Ferris wheel is the most symbolic, however, other innovative and futuristic constructions are not ruled out. This could be a glass viewpoint, aerial platform or a high-rise tower.

The new attraction will change Salou’s skyline within the next decade. Unlike the latest constructions located in the PortAventura World complex, this time the new high-rise attraction will be built in the heart of the city. It will add to the recreation activities along the promenade and will provide Salou with a new aerial viewpoint. Allowing it to compete with some of of the world’s major tourist destinations.
