The Caves of l’Espluga
Enjoy a family visit, museum exploration, or workshops at one of the world’s longest caves and Catalonia’s remarkable Paleolithic Sanctuary
With over 3,600 meters of galleries spread across the Cueva de la Fuente Mayor and the Cueva de la Villa, the Caves of l’Espluga de Francolí offer a marvel of Mediterranean prehistory, allowing us not only to understand but also to immerse ourselves in the daily lives of people from the Paleolithic, Neolithic, and ancient times.

The Caves of l’Espluga stand as the world’s only museum of its kind located within the same cavern. A series of reproductions, audiovisual displays, and explanatory graphics not only illustrate how people slept, ate, and worked in prehistory but also shed light on the sacred or ritualistic role that this natural wonder held, even unto the Iberians.
Aside from the majestic Paleolithic Sanctuary, unique for its antiquity and size in Catalonia, the caves also conceal natural treasures of breathtaking beauty. Alongside the sculptural rock formations, highlights include the underground river that merges with the Francolí on the surface and the lake gallery.

The Museum offers guided tours in Catalan and, on holidays and weekends, in Spanish as well. Audioguides are also available in English, French, and Russian. It is advisable to book tickets online and take advantage of the early or late hours to avoid crowds. Please note that the temperature inside is around 14-17 degrees Celsius, so wearing a jacket is highly recommended. The Museum provides free parking and features a shop where visitors can purchase souvenirs.
