Mas Miró

One of the best museums in Europe

Connect with Joan Miró’s work through the spaces that shaped him as one of the most important universal artists of the 20th century

Awarded as one of the best museums in Europe by the EMYA in 2022, the Mas Miró Museum House is an unparalleled resource to approach the life and work of the multifaceted Joan Miró. From a young age, this painter, sculptor, engraver, and ceramicist born in Barcelona (1893) fell in love with Mont-roig del Camp and established himself at the then-called “Mas dels Ferratges,” a colonial house originally owned by the Marquises of Mont-roig.

Visiting Mas Miró allows one to approach the work of the controversial artist in a unique way. His connection with the land, rural life, nature, and a certain cultural tradition create a delightful contrast with his avant-garde and surrealist style. In Mont-roig, the artist consolidated himself and created his first works, among which “La Masia” stands out, depicting the same farmhouse.

Located between the town and the beach of Mont-roig, next to the A-7, it’s no wonder that Miró repeatedly returned to his Mas after his commitments in New York or Japan. A few meters from the mentioned building used as a residence, we will find the workshop that the artist himself designed to develop his work. Also notable is the presence of a chapel and other buildings typical of the functioning of a farmhouse such as the house of the tenant farmers, the courtyard, or the henhouse.

Mas Miró has free parking, Wi-Fi, and an extensive shop with exclusive products related to the artist and the Masia. The Museum House is adapted for people with reduced mobility.
