Discover the most authentic experiences and activities in the capital of Terra Alta (Southern Catalonia)

Gandesa is the grand gateway to Terra Alta: living memory of the Ebro, agrarian Modernisme and benchmark Garnatxa wines amid vineyards and mountain ridges. In collaboration with Turisme de Gandesa, Mapilife has hand-picked the essential plans —clear, useful and with local tips— so you can plan a getaway at any time of year. Here’s the very best of the town

YOUR GANDESA ROUTE STARTS HERE

Museu Memorial de la Batalla de l’Ebre

Exhibition hall at the MMBE in Gandesa with panels, historical objects and recreated battle spaces.

The MMBE is the best place to start the route that follows the footprints of the Battle of the Ebro: a concise, powerful visit to understand what happened in 1938 and how it shaped Terra Alta. The exhibition is housed in the former Public Schools —now also home to the Tourist Office— and draws on the CEBE collection, created in Gandesa by local researchers to recover objects, documents and testimonies (July–November 1938). A living display with real pieces, AV content and staged rooms for all audiences: students, travellers and history lovers.

TERRA ALTA’S CATHEDRAL OF WINE

Cooperativa Modernista de Gandesa

Interior nave of the Cooperativa de Gandesa with Cèsar Martinell’s parabolic arches — an icon of agrarian Modernisme.

The Modernista jewel of Terra Alta, one of the most storied wine cathedrals. A key work by Cèsar Martinell that tells the agricultural heartbeat of the county: parabolic arches, working spaces and a wine culture spanning more than a century. The visit blends heritage and a tasting, connecting you to the present of local wineries.

RURAL EXPERIENCES

Wine & olive-oil tastings

Outdoor guided wine tasting in Gandesa, with the DO Terra Alta centre stage.

Discover the most authentic places and flavours in the county: routes through family wineries, guided tastings, food pairings with olive oil, walks among the vines and seasonal plans such as traditional harvest experiences. Wine and olive-oil activities led by Vinomi, connecting curious visitors with local producers and projects; tailor-made experiences for couples, families and groups.

360° OF HISTORY & LANDSCAPE

Coll del Moro

Remains of the Iberian settlement at Coll del Moro among pines, with excavated structures and Terra Alta’s natural setting.

Over 700 years of ancient history to discover how the first inhabitants of Terra Alta lived. An Iberian site that frames the age-old ties between vines, trade and the land. At the top you’ll find a 360° viewpoint over vineyards and ranges — the perfect counterpoint to the museum’s narrative. Visits: guided on demand via Turisme Gandesa.

THE MOST SCENIC ROUTE

The Greenway

Família en bicicleta travessant un viaducte de la Via Verda de la Terra Alta, amb el congost i les serres de fons.

The family-friendly itinerary crossing the county through mountains, vineyards, olive groves and rivers. The former railway line is now an easy route with tunnels, viaducts and Mediterranean scenery. Perfect for families and to unwind after cultural visits. Bike hire is available along the route, with shuttle services to tailor distance and return.
