A journey to the splendor of the capital of ‘Terres de l’Ebre’

This weekend is the Tortosa Renaissance Festival, from 20 to 23 July

Every year, on the third weekend in July, the city of Tortosa dresses up. The historic center is being transformed to house various workshops, stalls of local artisans and merchants, musicians, taverns and a wide range of shows and recreations. Procurators – or local rulers – and noble families show off their refined period costumes.

More than 3,000 citizens dress in medieval costumes and perform 60 daily shows, with more than 500 actors. It is a travel to the splendor of Tortosa 500 years ago

Tortosa is a city that exudes the greatness of a legendary capital. The capital stands out for its rich historical and gastronomic heritage. Therefore, it is especially recommended to visit the city on these dates and enjoy a unique and immersive experience. Throughout the Festival, the low-medieval and Renaissance gastronomy is very present: several restaurants take part in the Mengeu de Festa, where the bakeries and pastry chefs make Les Llepolies de la Festa or the taverns of La Ruta de la Saboga that recreate the most popular spaces.

Local cuisine and shows are the main attractions of the Festival

There is a long schedule of shows, both free and paid, with limited capacity. The offer ranges from music concerts of the time, to circus and comedy shows, to exhibitions and competitions of knights. You can check the show schedule and you can now buy tickets in advance.

The Renaissance Festival is alive in every corner of the city. In order not to miss anything, it is highly advisable to go to the Tourist Office to request a map and a program of the party. There you can also buy tickets for the shows. During the Feast, admission to the Cathedral and the Renaissance palaces is paid as during the rest of the year. Therefore, it is advisable to purchase the Tortosa Card, which gives access to the main monuments of the city, including the Renaissance palaces, with a reduced price of 7 euros.


Lo Sirgador

The most emblematic experience in Tortosa are the routes on board Lo Sirgador. Cultural and gastronomic cruises that allow you to discover the history and environment of the city from the river Ebro. This historic wooden llagut makes several daily routes from the market area, next to the river. Highlights include cruises with vermouth or during sunset, they also organize guided tours of the old town. Activities available throughout the year.
