L’Hospitalet de l’Infant and Vall de Llors have been welcoming travellers for centuries, and still today with cultural, sports and gastronomic experiences for everyone

L’Hospitalet del Infant del Vall de Llors has a privileged position in the heart of southern Catalonia. On the one hand, it is the gateway to the Camp de Tarragona plain and the Costa Daurada; on the other, the entrance road to Terres de l’Ebre and finally, the Vall de Llors above, is the entrance to a set of mountains that link from the Serra de Llaberia Natural Area, the Priorat and the Prades mountains.

Visit the Gothic Castle of L’Hospitalet de L’Infant

The Gothic Hospital of Coll de Balaguer, funded in 1344, is the most emblematic monument in L’Hospitalet de l’Infant and, in fact, it is the building that gave the town its name. Its function was to welcome the pilgrims and pedestrians who passed through the Coll de Balaguer and it also defended the place. Since 2016, it has had a visitor center where the relationship between the building and the population can be discovered in an educational way. The complex also includes a museum space and the north and southwest towers are also accessible. Today, perfectly restored, they contain the Coll de Balaguer Visitor Center, where can learn about the important role that Hospitals played in the Middle Ages.

A meeting point where the mountain becomes the sea, offering unique landscapes and beaches. There are the most virgin beaches of the entire Costa Daurada. Longer and more crystalline beaches such as Almadrava, Arenal or the nudist Torn beach, or smaller and rockier ones such as Cala Bea or Cova del Llop Marí are ideal for snorkelling.

In fact, there are some itineraries marked by buoys and underwater panels that explain the diversity of animals and aquatic plants that can be seen. In order to dive specifically in the Cova del Llop Marí, reservations must be made. This is free of charge and it gives you 30 minutes of exploring. In high season the times are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Other fascinating routes to contemplate the sea from another perspective in height, are the hiking ones. The spectacular viewpoints by the sea stand out, from where you can perfectly appreciate the shape of the Ebro Delta, as well as the Route of the Viewpoints. Many others run through the Llors Valley and join different charming towns, such as Masriudoms, Masboquera and Vandellòs.

In Vandellòs, among olive and almond trees, we find the Olive Oil Mill Centre. They offer guided tours in the old Vandellòs oil mill where the original machinery and various tools are preserved, showing the process of making the oil, from the collection of the olives to their consumption. The visit ends with tasting one of the best olive oils in the region.
