The Mestral Ranges, to the south of the mountains of Baix Camp, constitute one of the green lungs of the Costa Daurada. We present to you three routes, three excursions, ranging from low to moderate difficulty, that stand out for the magnificent panoramic views they offer.

ROUTE 1: From Mont-roig del Camp to the Hermitage of Mare de Déu de la Roca via the Hermitage Path

Discover a route from Mont-roig del Camp to the picturesque Chapel of Mare de Déu de La Roca (The Rock), one of the great postcards of the Costa Daurada mountains. The walk starts in the historic center of the village, crosses the olive fields of the area, ventures into paths surrounded by Mediterranean forest, and culminates with a small ascent among reddish rocks. At the summit, we can visit the Chapel of Mare de Déu de la Roca and the Chapel of Sant Ramon, located on a floating rock at 300 meters altitude. From this point, you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view, spanning from Tarragona and Salou to the majestic mountains.

Where to eat: Located at the top of the route, there is the restaurant La Cuina de l’Ermita, a charming place with homemade cuisine. Their competitive menu offers typical recipes of Catalan cuisine made with seasonal and local products. The panoramic views from the dining room and the warmth of the slow-cooking kitchen make it the perfect place to recharge before continuing the adventure. There is parking available and it is open every day except Tuesdays.

Activity: To round off the day, it is highly recommended to visit Mas Miró. A museum of the farmhouse where the famous artist Joan Miró made his creations.

ROUTE 2: From Pratdip to the Sanctuary of Santa Marina through the Güena Mountain Range

Explore an exciting hike from Pratdip to the Chapel of Santa Marina, a circular route suitable for all ages. Begin the journey at the Interpretation Centre of the Serra de Llaberia, an essential stop to learn about the fascinating legend that gives its name to this village in Baix Camp. Nearby, there is the viewpoint of the Castle, which offers 360-degree views of the majestic mountains surrounding Pratdip. Next, the circular mountain route to the Hermitage begins, ascending through the Güena and returning via the Santa Marina ravine. One of the numerous excursions offered by this natural area.

Where to eat: Located at the Santa Marina Chapel, there is La Cuina d’en Carlos. They offer Catalan cuisine and grilled dishes right next to this chapel full of artistic details. The restaurant specialises in grilled meats and elaborately prepared game dishes.

Activity: Visit the Horus Centre, the shelter and sanctuary for animals in Pratdip. A unique NGO in the area that takes care of dozens of native species at risk of extinction and rescues abandoned exotic animals to give them a better life. ROUTE 3:  From Hospitalet de l’Infant to Nadell Cave

From Hospitalet de l’Infant, numerous hiking trails are found throughout the Mestral Mountains with great balconies overlooking the Mediterranean. Of all the excursions, the most iconic is the circular route to Nadell Peak, following the path along the Paumeres Canal. Although the hike is short, certain sections of the ascent can be demanding, as it requires crossing rugged and barren terrain. However, the effort is rewarded with panoramic views of the coastline and the discovery of Nadell Cave. This natural formation, located at the peak, boasts spacious chambers with spectacular views. It’s one of the most mythical scenes in the mountains of the Costa Daurada, where the sea meets the mountains.

Where to eat: The gastronomic offer in Hospitalet de l’Infant is centered around the harbour, where you can find restaurants specialising in seafood, signature cuisine, meat dishes, as well as tapas bars and international cuisine.

Activity: The most emblematic cultural attraction is the visit to the Gothic Castle of Coll de Balaguer. A monumental complex dating back to 1344 located at a strategic point and giving its name to the town. Today it has been converted into the most visited museum in Hospitalet de l’Infant.
